About Me
Development Economist, Researcher & Educator
I am Farhia Dini, a Somali development economist, researcher and educator based in Mogadishu. I lecture in the Faculty of Economics at SIMAD University and serve as Head of Career Development and Women’s Economic Empowerment at SIMAD Innovation Lab. My work sits at the intersection of applied economics, higher education, labour-market transition and women’s economic participation. Across these fields, I ask a consistent question: how can rigorous evidence and stronger institutions expand people’s economic capabilities?

Research, Teaching and Professional Experience
My research focuses on the structural drivers of development in Somalia and sub-Saharan Africa, including human capital, food security, agricultural production, trade, investment, energy, inflation, institutional quality and digital transformation. I use applied econometric methods to examine long-run relationships, policy-relevant mechanisms and the conditions under which growth can become more inclusive and resilient.
